The Zembik Zone Week 2 Breakdown

Week two for the gophers would be the same dog fight as week one but different non conference game. The gophers faced off in this week two match up against the Air Force Academy.

The gophers did jump out to an early 3-0 lead against the Falcons in the first quarter. There ended up being 6 punts 2 field goals and 1 fumble in the first half. It consisted of a lot of great defense to leave the game as a tie going in after two quarters of play. The offenses were productive but neither team could really break anything open. The first half would end with a 3-3 tie.

The second half of football brought a whole new life of offense even though the first two possessions ended up in a turnover on downs for the Falcons and a punt by the Gophers. The Falcons would drive 76yds on 8 plays for a touchdown to give the Falcons the lead 10-3. The gophers were not going out without a fight as they themselves put together a 72yd drive on 9 plays to tie the game up at 10-10.

The wheels really fell off for Air Force after that. The Gophers would force a fumble for a touchdown as well as another field goal by Eric Ellestad to finish em off. The final score in this one would be 20-13.

The Gopher offense started out again very slow this week. They did have a lot more production this week overall through out the game but it was far from good. The passing game was a lot better this week as Adam Weber went 20/29 for 219yds.Gophers running backs got a lot of reps for some very good yardage as well as a touchdown.

The Gopher defense played extremely well this week just as they did last week. They have a few improvements to make but their overall production was great. The yards that were given up by the Gophers is the biggest focus for improvement. They would give up 125yds passing and 261yds rushing this week. They did make up a little for that with a forced fumble that would end up being taken back for a touchdown by Nathan Triplett.
